Grape Stuff is holding a contest to win a free Grape Grill Buddy to raise awareness for BBQ Safety! More and more people are becoming aware of the dangers of fireworks. Every year around the Fourth of July, there are warnings and reports of accidents involving the lighting of fireworks. But what most people never hear about are the countless times that there are BBQ accidents. According to the National Fire Protection Association, each year, an average of 8800 home fires are caused by grilling and July is the peak month for grill fires. Between 2005 and 2009 the U.S. Fire Department responded to over 8000 structure and outside fires per year involving grills that caused an average of $75 million in property damage. In 2012, nearly 17,000 people were hospitalized because of injuries involving grills. 16% of grill fires were home structure fires that resulted from something being too close to the grill. Leaks and breaks were factors in one of six reported grill fires with gas grills contributing a higher number of home fires overall than their charcoal counterparts. This year, Grape Stuff would like to raise awareness for BBQ safety and Fourth of July is the perfect time to do that as most people will be lighting up the BBQ in their own backyards or campgrounds and parks all over the U.S. Not a company that likes to do things half way, Grape Stuff would like to make this a fun, interactive exercise and also provide a free gift to one lucky blog reader! Make sure you have a fire extinguisher handy just in case. 4. If you smell gas while cooking, move away from the grill and call the fire department immediately. Do not move the grill.
